The Sandvik Plant

The Sandvik Plant is our biofuel-based production plant for cogeneration. Cogeneration is extremely energy-efficient, as it generates both heating and electricity at the same time. Other electricity production does not make use of the heat that is always generated. That’s why cogeneration is so smart!

The Sandvik Plant produces district heating and electricity in a number of different units. As all heating can be produced in one single place, thousands of heating boilers and chimneys are replaced by Sandvik’s modern, efficient boiler plants. The raw material consists largely of wood chips, bark and sawdust, as well as logging residues such as branches and tops. The Sandvik Plant and the commitment to biofuel have contributed to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels in Växjö Municipality.

Benefits of the Sandvik Plant

  • Through our biofuel-based main plants, we contribute to a better environment and a sustainable society.
  • We contribute to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.
  • We contribute towards the realisation of Växjö Municipality’s goal of a fossil-fuel free Växjö and the vision of being Europe’s greenest city.
  • Cogeneration has the major benefit that electricity and heating are produced simultaneously.
