Bifuel

Using biofuels for the production of the heat and electricity in our combined heat and power plant reduces the need for fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas. We produce over 95% of our district heating and electricity using biofuel. The raw material mostly comprises logging residues plus sawdust, bark and peat.

Forestry chips come from the final logging and thinning of an area of forest, with the treetops and branches collected into large piles which are covered in order to dry out.

When it is time for delivery, the biofuel is cut into chips and delivered directly to the combined heat and power plant. The energy used for chipping, handling and transportation from the forest to the combined heat and power plant represents only around 3% of the fuel's energy content.
